MATERIAL
Rubber extrusions are used in various industries for their unique properties and characteristics. The most common types of rubber extrusion materials and their characteristics as below.
EPDM Rubber are known for their excellent resistance to weathering, ozone, and UV rays. They are also resistant to water and steam, making them ideal for outdoor applications, automotive weatherstripping, and seals for industrial equipment. Temperature range of -40°C to 120°C.
Silicone Rubber are highly flexible and have excellent resistance to extreme temperatures, chemicals, and UV light. They are used in applications where high temperature resistance is required, such as oven door seals, automotive and aerospace applications, and medical equipment. Silicone tubing, silicone stopper, silicone sponge gasket, silicone seal etc kinds of silicone rubber products used on these industries. Temperature range of -60°C to 200°C.
NBR Rubber have excellent resistance to oil, grease, and fuels, making them ideal for use in the automotive and aerospace industries. They also have good abrasion resistance and can withstand a wide range of temperatures, making them suitable for industrial machinery, gaskets, and seals. Have a temperature range of -30°C to 110°C.
CR Rubber are known for their excellent ozone and weather resistance. They are also resistant to oil, chemicals, and heat, making them ideal for use in the automotive, marine, and industrial industries. Have a temperature range of -30°C to 110°C.
FKM material that is highly resistant to chemicals, high temperatures, and UV exposure. They also have excellent mechanical properties, such as high tensile strength and tear resistance, making them ideal for use in harsh environments. It is known for their excellent high-temperature resistance. They can withstand temperatures up to 400°F (204°C) continuously, and up to 450°F (232°C) intermittently. FKM rubber strips are commonly used in the automotive, aerospace, and chemical processing industries, as well as in sealing applications where high temperatures and chemical exposure are common. FKM seals are widely used in high temperature required equipment.
PVC are known for their excellent flexibility, durability, and resistance to weathering and chemicals. They are commonly used for seals, gaskets, and decorative trim in the automotive and construction industries. Such as protection edge trim, rigid window door frame, flexible decrative edge time etc. Have a temperature range of -10°C to 60°C.
SBR is a synthetic rubber with medium elasticity, wear resistance, aging resistance, acid and alkali resistance, etc. Its elasticity is lower than NR, but its wear resistance is indeed better than NR. It is a thermoplastic Rubber has good physical properties and processing properties. About 70% SBR rubber is widely used in the tire industry, industrial products, sports equipment, floor materials and other fields. In addition, SBR is also widely used in the manufacture of conveyor belts. According to its performance, it is not difficult to see that seals, rubber tubes and other industrial products can be used in situations where oil resistance, heat resistance and no special requirements are required. Therefore, it is an ordinary glue and the price is relatively cheap. Temperature resistance range is about -50℃~+100℃
HNBR is characterized by high mechanical strength and wear resistance. When cross-linked with peroxide, the heat resistance is better than NBR. Other properties are the same as nitrile rubber. But the price is higher. Mainly used for oil-resistant and high-temperature resistant sealing products. Operating temperature range: about -30℃~+150℃.
Natural rubber (NR) has high elasticity, high elongation strength, excellent tear resistance and electrical insulation, good wear resistance and drought resistance, good process ability, easy to bond with other materials, and is better than most synthetics in terms of overall performance rubber.
The disadvantages are poor oxygen and ozone resistance, easy aging and deterioration; poor oil and solvent resistance, low acid and alkali corrosion resistance; low heat resistance. Operating temperature range: about -60℃~+80℃.
It is often used to make tires, rubber shoes, rubber hoses, tapes, insulation layers and sheaths of wires and cables, and other general products.Natural rubber is particularly suitable for the manufacture of torsional vibration eliminators, engine shock absorbers, machine mounts, rubber-metal suspension elements, diaphragms, and molded products.
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) has outstanding excellent comprehensive properties, including high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, non-stick, self-lubricating, excellent dielectric properties, and low friction coefficient. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) has excellent chemical stability, corrosion resistance, sealing, high lubrication and non-stickiness, electrical insulation and good anti-aging endurance. It can work for a long time at temperatures from +250°C to -180°C. Except for molten metal sodium and liquid fluorine, it is resistant to all other chemicals and does not change when boiled in aqua regia. PTFE can be made into polytetrafluoroethylene tubes, rods, strips, plates, films, gaskets, etc. It is generally used in corrosion-resistant pipes, containers, pumps, valves, radars, high-frequency communication equipment, radio equipment, etc. that require high performance.
Various PTFE rings, PTFE gaskets, PTFE packing, etc. are widely used in various types of anti-corrosion pipeline flange seals. PTFE has been widely used in chemical, machinery, electronics, electrical appliances, military industry, aerospace, environmental protection and bridge industries.
Understanding the characteristics and properties of different rubber extrusion materials is important for selecting the right material for your application.
