100% PTFE gasket supplier

A PTFE gasket is a sealing element made from polytetrafluoroethylene, a high-performance polymer. PTFE is better known by the brand name Teflon. It offers excellent chemical resistance, non-stick properties, and high-temperature tolerance, making it ideal for demanding applications.

PROPERTIES:

Chemical Resistance: PTFE gaskets are almost universally resistant to chemicals, including acids, solvents, and bases, which makes them suitable for aggressive environments.

Temperature Resistance:They operate across a wide range of temperatures, from -200°C to +260°C (or even higher for modified versions), maintaining their integrity in extreme conditions.

Non-stick Surface: PTFE has low friction, preventing substances from adhering to its surface, making it ideal for clean applications.

Electrical Insulation: It acts as an excellent insulator, often used where electrical conductivity needs to be minimized.

Low Water Absorption: PTFE is hydrophobic, meaning it does not absorb moisture, making it ideal for humid or wet environments.

TYPES of PTFE GASKETS

Virgin PTFE Gaskets:

Made from 100% pure PTFE without fillers. These offer the highest chemical resistance and are typically used in highly corrosive environments.

Filled PTFE Gaskets:

To enhance mechanical properties (like wear resistance and dimensional stability), PTFE can be mixed with materials such as glass fiber, carbon, or graphite. These are suited for applications with higher mechanical loads.

Expanded PTFE (ePTFE) Gaskets:

This is a more flexible form of PTFE, ideal for sealing uneven or delicate surfaces. It offers enhanced flexibility while maintaining chemical resistance.

Specifications

Applications of PTFE Gaskets:

Chemical Industry: For sealing pipes, valves, and reactors handling aggressive chemicals.

Food and Beverage: Used in food-grade equipment due to its non-stick properties and compliance with hygiene standards.

Pharmaceutical Industry: Provides leak-proof seals in medical devices and equipment.

Petrochemical and Oil & Gas: For pipelines and equipment exposed to harsh environments.

Aerospace and Electronics: Where low friction and insulation are crucial.

Advantages and Disadvantages:

Advantages:

Outstanding chemical and temperature resistance

Non-stick, low-friction surface

High durability and longevity

Disadvantages:

PTFE gaskets are prone to cold flow (creep), meaning they may deform under constant stress over time.

They are relatively expensive compared to standard rubber or elastomer gaskets.

Virgin PTFE can be softer, making it unsuitable for high-pressure applications without reinforcement.

Installation Considerations

Proper Torque: PTFE is prone to creeping under pressure, so correct bolt torques must be used to ensure a tight seal.

Surface Preparation: For best results, both surfaces should be clean and flat to reduce the chance of leaks.

Reusability: PTFE gaskets should not be reused, as they lose their sealing capability after deformation.
